One of the most depressing things about right now is that we’ve been going through menopause since the beginning of time yet there is still no coordinated plan to addressed the dearth of research on it.
Enter the kind of well-rounded, scholarly, coordinated effort we need: An international initiative led by University of Chicago Medicine has quietly and diligently bridged a great, nonsensical divide and set 10 top research priorities for menopause that actually make sense.
Working with the University of Melbourne in Australia and the EGA Hospital Charity in the UK, UChicago Medicine surveyed 593 people in 42 countries to find out their top concerns.
According to the director of UChicago Medicine’s menopause program, Dr. Monica Christmas, most respondents were interested in safe and effective non-hormonal treatments – including medicines, herbal and complementary remedies, and therapies – despite the “renewed interest” in hormone therapy.
