I don’t say this lightly: Andrea Donsky’s new book Nourishing Menopause is the best menopause book I’ve read. And I’ve read a lot of them. What makes it different is that Andrea actually bridges the gap — the one between “go see your doctor and get hormones” and “go natural and avoid everything.” Most women don’t even know that gap exists. Andrea lives in it, and she wrote an entire book from there. With a foreword from a naturopathic doctor and a foreword from a board-certified OB-GYN and former president of The Menopause Society, this book doesn’t pick a side. It just tells you the truth.
Andrea is the co-founder of Morphus, a seven-time published menopause researcher, and she has surveyed over 20,000 women to build one of the most comprehensive symptom datasets out there. Her published research in the journal Menopause showed that there are 103+ symptoms — not the 34 you keep seeing cited — and that 40% of women are dismissed by their doctor when they bring them up. She was in perimenopause for 14 years without knowing it. She got pregnant twice during that time. She has done the work, and she brings all of it into this conversation.
We talked about why weight gain in menopause is not your fault (there are 17 reasons, not one), why “calories in, calories out” is still somehow a thing people say, how to actually evaluate research and supplements without losing your mind, what misinformation really looks like in this space, and why the word “nourishing” means so much more than food. This one hit different. Listen wherever you get your podcasts or comment ANDREA and I’ll send you the link.
