Everyone always talks about not being able to sleep in perimenopause. For a reason. And for many of us, it hits out of the blue.
It’s one of the biggest problems and it presents in so many ways. It impacts everything else. So I think it’s the first thing anyone should focus on.
When I was going through perimenopause, between 40 and 50 being the prime years of sleep suffering, I had several different permutations of sleeplessness.
All of them sucked.
I didn’t even know I was in perimenopause until about 47, so hormone therapy wasn’t an option. And then when I did know, my ob-gyn at the time wouldn’t prescribe hormone therapy in peri. (She was fabulous and French and waved her hand, saying “if we were in France I could give you something, but they don’t have it here”.)
Then I developed health problems (as many of us do) and sorted those out. I’m only getting around to hormone therapy now, and have only just passed through menopause. So I’m taking my time …
