I am bursting with excitement because THIS WEEK I’ll be meeting with many of the people I’ve admired in this menopause conversation – and maybe with you!
First, on Thursday:
Shaping the Future of Menopause Transition is a panel being held to celebrate the launch of the Perry menopause journal (to which I contributed something – it will be interesting to see what it was!)
Check out who I am joining on stage, would you? (UM Stacy London… what will I not wear? Jean shorts. For sure I won’t wear jean shorts).
Some of the top doctors and thought leaders in this space. I’m very excited to speak with all of them.
If it is at all possible, I do hope you can join us and come say hi. The event is free on a first-come, first-served basis.
Sign up here to attend (I think there are minimal spaces left) or watch virtually (you can indicate your IRL or virtual attendance while booking).
Then, on Friday:
Omisade Burney-Scott is in the midst of expanding her multidisciplinary storytelling project and intergenerational narrative shift work with Black Girl’s Guide to Surviving Menopause (BGGSM).
Omi has been co-creating peer learning exchanges to normalize the menopause experience of Black women, trans, and gender-expansive people since March, meeting in London, Toronto, and Luquillo (Puerto Rico) and this week NYC! In the process she is fulfilling a commitment to center lived experiences across the African diaspora.
BGGSM is a vital effort and a reminder that this kind of change of life is not a solo experience: that it touches and changes every form of relationship.
There are several different elements to the New York leg of this tour, in partnership with Harlem-based cultural consultancy Betty's Daughter Arts Collaborative.
Here’s more info. And I would love to see you there too.
A few wise words from Omi that you might need to hear today:
“Menopause is a portal to the next iteration of yourself. We’re still emergent; it doesn’t matter how old you get, there is no shelf life on being emergent. Menopause is one of those portals that we kind of enter into that’s unchartered territory. When we emerge on the other side, we are absolutely transformed.”
Editor’s note
Please come say hi.
Yours in anticipated jet lag,
